African Cup of Nations

On the 20th January Egypt will play host to the 25th African Cup of Nations, showcasing the best in African footballing talent.

In recent years a combination of the frequency of the tournament (it takes place every two years, rather than every four as with the European Championships) and scheduling conflicts with European domestic leagues have lead to the competition being considered a poorer relation to it's European cousin by many.

However, the competition should still have more than it's fair share of good matches, with Ivory Coast, Angola, Tunisia and Ghana all looking to impress before the World Cup in June.

For more information on the tournament, take a look at About a Ball's team by team guide , or the BBC African Cup of Nations home page.
